According to Christian tradition, the 'September 8 of an unspecified year somewhere near Nazareth was born of the Virgin Mary.  The Great Basilica della Santissima Annunziata in Florence is dedicated to the worship of Mary and the day of his birthday is a day of celebration.  In the middle ages to arrive in time for the church service, many were leaving their countries before the 'dawn. The farmers were so in need of lanterns, which often led to attack 'end of a stick, made with candles protected by a piece of fine fabric.  This tradition is continued even today, in fact the eve of 'September 8, the Florentines and other "pilgrims" carrying paper lanterns (also called "lanterns") hung on sticks through the streets of Florence.
